Millions for flood victims who didn't experience floods. Further resignations in KARR scandal

The president and supervisory board of the Karkonosze Regional Development Agency (KARR) have been dismissed, according to a spokesperson for the Marshal's Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. This decision stems from allegations of irregularities concerning flood relief support.

The move comes after the regional councilors of Civic Coalition (KO) called for such action the previous day. The spokesperson, Michał Nowakowski, stated that the decision was made "out of concern for the transparency of the Karkonosze Regional Development Agency's operations." He also noted that the agency's vice-president had been dismissed earlier due to "moral and ethical concerns."

Reports surfaced that 4.5 million Polish zloty in flood aid from KARR had been allocated to three entities in the same area, despite information suggesting they were not significantly affected by the floods. These entities are reportedly linked to the agency's vice-president, a Civic Coalition activist.

Nowakowski announced that a new supervisory board has been appointed, comprising individuals with legal and ownership supervision experience. Dr. hab. Marek Leśniak, a professor at the University of Wrocław, has been appointed as the chairman of the new board and will temporarily perform the duties of the president. The new board's tasks include auditing the company and cooperating with investigative bodies, including the prosecutor's office and the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA).

Both the prosecutor's office in Jelenia Góra and the CBA have launched investigations into potential irregularities in the distribution of flood subsidies. The Ministry of Development and Technology is also conducting its own control. Additionally, a group of independent councilors has initiated proceedings to dismiss the Voivodeship Marshal, Paweł Gancarz.
