Millions of Indonesian Households Lack Homes, Expo Aims to Bridge Gap

A substantial housing deficit persists in Indonesia, with approximately 9.29 million households currently not owning a home, according to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released in March 2024.

Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, CEO of Danantara Indonesia, highlighted this critical issue during the opening of the Danantara Housing Expo in Tangerang. He further noted that a significant number of households, around 18 million, reside in dwellings that do not meet minimum livability standards, underscoring the vast scale of the housing challenge.

Roeslani emphasized that addressing this housing need is a top priority. Danantara Indonesia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PKP), is committed to accelerating the fulfillment of housing requirements and ensuring that available homes meet acceptable living standards. The company views this as a crucial step in improving the quality of life for many Indonesians.

The Danantara Housing Expo itself is presented as a tangible contribution to the government's national priority program, which aims to build three million homes. Through this event, Danantara seeks to offer a supply of housing at affordable prices, coupled with competitive financing options and easier access, particularly for lower and middle-income segments of the population.

This initiative reflects a broader effort to tackle Indonesia's housing shortage, a complex issue influenced by factors such as population growth, urbanization, and economic disparities. The expo aims to connect potential homeowners with developers and financial institutions, streamlining the process of acquiring a home and contributing to the nation's development goals.
