Milwaukee's 'Dr. K' Misiorowski Shatters MLB Strikeout Record

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski has etched his name in Major League Baseball history, becoming the first pitcher to record 200 strikeouts in fewer than 500 batters faced. The 24-year-old right-hander achieved this remarkable feat in his 488th batter faced this season, surpassing the previous record of 502 batters set by Spencer Strider in 2023.

Misiorowski's dominance was on full display during his start against the Minnesota Twins on August 10th. He struck out nine batters over six innings, allowing three runs. This performance brought his season total to 204 strikeouts, with 40.6% of the batters he has faced being struck out. His strikeout rate is second only to Shane Bieber's 41.1% in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, which involved fewer games and batters.

At his current pace, Misiorowski is on track to become the first pitcher in seven years to achieve 300 strikeouts in a single season. The last pitchers to reach this milestone were Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander in 2019. Misiorowski also leads all of MLB with an impressive 1.67 earned run average (ERA).

The game also marked a significant moment for infielder Ji-Hwan Bae, who made his debut for the Brewers after being released by the New York Mets. Bae recorded a bunt single in the seventh inning, his first MLB hit in 452 days since May 15, 2023, while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He later successfully executed a sacrifice bunt in the ninth inning. The Brewers went on to win the game in extra innings, extending their lead as the best winning percentage in MLB.
