Minister Cigler Kralj: We must remove bureaucratic obstacles for farmers (VIDEO)

Slovenian Minister of Agriculture Janez Cigler Kralj visited the Kranj region to assess the damage caused by drought, meeting with representatives from the Agricultural and Forestry Chamber of Slovenia and the agricultural advisory service. The minister emphasized the critical need for a fundamental change in the country's strategic approach to farming.

"It is essential that we change our strategic view and approach to farming," Minister Cigler Kralj stated. He explained that due to evolving agrometeorological conditions, Slovenia must significantly increase its investment in preventive measures. This includes enhancing irrigation systems and implementing protective strategies for crops, especially during the increasingly frequent dry periods.

The minister highlighted that the new strategic plan for agricultural policy must incorporate these preventative measures. "In the new strategic plan for agricultural policy, together with experts, we will have to set up measures so that much more is invested in prevention, preventive measures, irrigation systems, shading, and everything else that can help protect plants in this most critical period when we increasingly lack rainfall in Slovenia," he added.

Cigler Kralj's remarks underscore the growing challenges faced by Slovenian farmers due to climate change and increasingly unpredictable weather patterns. The focus on prevention and adaptation is seen as vital for ensuring the resilience and sustainability of the agricultural sector in the face of these environmental shifts.
