Ministry of Culture allocates nearly 464 million dinars for Manasija Monastery

Serbia's Ministry of Culture has committed nearly 464 million dinars (approximately 3.9 million euros) towards the comprehensive protection and presentation of the historic Manasija Monastery. The agreement was signed by Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković and the monastery's abbot, Protosindjel Pavle.

This significant allocation is the latest in a series of investments, bringing the total state funding for Manasija to 553.6 million dinars over the past nine months. Minister Selaković highlighted that with future funds, the total investment will reach 1.046 billion dinars (over 8.8 million euros) within the next year. He emphasized that this represents the largest single sum the state has invested in a cultural heritage site in Serbia in decades.

Manasija will greet next year, the year of Saint Despot Stefan Lazarević, with a great renovation, the largest ever.

The funds will be directed towards crucial restoration efforts, including the monastic refectory, described as the most monumental in the Serbian Orthodox Church within Serbia. Additionally, the monastery's defensive walls and towers will undergo renovation and reconstruction. The investment also supports new archaeological research in previously unexplored areas of the site.

Minister Selaković expressed gratitude to President Aleksandar Vučić and other government officials for their support. He noted that Manasija is set to welcome the upcoming year, designated as the Year of Saint Despot Stefan Lazarević, with a major renovation, the most extensive in its history. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to preserving Serbia's rich cultural and historical legacy.

With the funds we will transfer next year, the state will invest a total of one billion and 46 million dinars in Manasija.
