Minor involved in brutal beating placed in Osijek institution

A minor accused of a brutal assault in Slavonski Brod has been placed in a social welfare institution in Osijek as a precautionary measure. The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, involved a group of youths attacking a 31-year-old man who was returning home.

Video footage circulating on social media shows the man, already unconscious on the ground, being repeatedly kicked and punched by one of the attackers. The victim sustained head and body injuries and was taken to the Slavonski Brod General Hospital for treatment following police intervention.

Police reported the arrest of a minor in connection with the attempted severe bodily injury. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspect was brought before the Municipal Court in Slavonski Brod. Court spokesperson Marina Smaić stated that all proceedings involving minors are confidential.

A youth court judge subsequently ordered the minor to be placed in a social welfare institution in Osijek. This temporary measure will remain in effect until the proceedings are concluded. Further witness testimonies and evidence gathering will take place before an indictment is filed.

The city administration of Slavonski Brod has appealed to the police for increased surveillance in public areas, particularly on weekends, to prevent similar incidents and ensure resident safety. They condemned the violence, emphasizing that "violent behavior has no place in our society."
