Mir Raza murder case: Karachi police surgeon among four summoned by judicial commission

A judicial commission investigating the death of Mir Raza Ali has summoned Karachi’s police surgeon and another member of the medical board involved in the exhumation of his body.

The commission ordered Karachi Police Surgeon Dr Summaiyya Syed and the other board member to appear at its next hearing. Ali’s body had been found with a gunshot wound in July in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

The case has become entangled in allegations of a cover-up. Ali’s family accused police of trying to bury the facts, while law enforcement initially pursued the possibility that the 25-year-old had died by suicide.

Dr Syed had previously identified flaws in the findings of Ali’s first autopsy. His body was subsequently exhumed and subjected to a second post-mortem, which ruled out suicide.

The one-member commission, headed by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial, is examining the circumstances of the death and possible negligence in the investigation.
