Mirel Idorași, Former Forest Guard Chief Inspector, Detained for Allegedly Stealing and Destroying Institutional Documents

Mirel Idorași, the former chief inspector of the Forest Guard, has been detained for 24 hours by Bucharest police as part of a criminal investigation into the alleged theft and destruction of institutional documents. Investigators suspect Idorași took the documents to obstruct and delay the processing of requests and appeals submitted by legal entities.

Idorași, who held a leadership position within the public institution, was detained on Monday, August 10. He is scheduled to appear before magistrates on Tuesday, August 11, with prosecutors expected to request his pre-trial detention. Police have identified five instances of the alleged offense of stealing or destroying written documents.

The investigation commenced on May 18, 2026, after representatives from a public institution filed a complaint against Idorași. The complaint alleged that he had stolen and destroyed several documents belonging to the institution to impede procedures for resolving applications and appeals from businesses. Police executed three search warrants at Idorași's residences and workplace, seizing documents suspected of being unlawfully removed during his tenure.

Evidence suggests the alleged acts occurred within the institution, targeting internal documents and records. These included materials held by employees and official correspondence. Based on the gathered evidence, Idorași was detained for 24 hours.

This is not the first time Idorași has faced scrutiny. In May, he was detained and taken to a police station after the current head of the Forest Guard reported him for allegedly stealing keys from offices and cabinets. He was later fined for disturbing public order, though he claimed the keys were mostly his and the incident was an attempt at intimidation.
