Miro Gavran and Darko Domitrović Receive Golden Lion Award for Musical 'Byron'

Croatian composer Darko Domitrović and writer Miro Gavran have been honored with the prestigious international "Golden Lion" cultural award from the "Menotti Art Festival Spoleto." The award recognizes their collaborative work on the musical "Byron."

The "Menotti Art Festival Spoleto" is a significant international arts festival held in Italy's Umbria region. Domitrović personally accepted both awards at a ceremony in Venice. The event also featured a recording of Domitrović's composition "Stelle perdute," released in Italy and performed by Domitrović, cellist Ana Rucner, and soprano Sandra Bagarić.

Domitrović expressed his satisfaction with the international recognition of his and Gavran's work. He noted that "Byron" had previously won the Croatian Actors' Guild Award for best musical and operetta and enjoyed a successful run at Zagreb's Komedija Theatre. "It especially pleases me to know that what Miro and I create is valued so highly beyond our country's borders," Domitrović stated. He described the Venice award ceremony as a moment of joy and an opportunity to connect with accomplished international artists.

The successful Gavran-Domitrović duo has continued their collaboration since "Byron." Last year, they created the musical legend "Coronation of King Tomislav," which premiered in multiple Croatian cities as a major co-production. This new international award highlights their continued success on the global stage.
