Mirziyoyev congratulates Meloni on becoming Italy’s longest-serving prime minister

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated Giorgia Meloni on a record tenure that made her Italy’s longest-serving prime minister. In a letter, he praised her efforts to defend Italy’s national interests and strengthen the country’s influence in the European Union and on the international stage amid what he called the “current complex and rapidly changing environment.”

Mirziyoyev also thanked Meloni for her “friendly attitude toward Uzbekistan and unwavering attention to the consistent expansion of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.” He said Uzbekistan highly values its strategic partnership with Italy.

The Uzbek president wished Meloni good health, family happiness and success in public service. He also wished peace, well-being and prosperity to the people of Italy.

Meloni has led the Italian government since October 2022, after her Brothers of Italy party became the largest force in a center-right coalition that won a parliamentary majority in elections held on Sept. 25 that year. She was sworn in on Oct. 22, 2022, as Italy’s first female prime minister. On Sept. 3, her government reached 1,413 days in office, making it the country’s longest continuously serving government since World War II.
