Misiones ends application intake for second university scholarship payment

Misiones has closed the intake of student files for the second payment of university scholarships provided through agreements involving the Entidad Binacional Yacyretá, the Misiones provincial government and the Government of Paraguay's scholarship program.

Milcíades Cuevas, head of the Misiones Education Secretariat, said the deadline for submitting the required documents ended on Friday. Staff will review each file to check whether applicants meet the requirements. If they qualify, the administration will request the payment from the relevant financial authority.

Those interested submit their documents in person. Once received, each file is analyzed to verify compliance with the requirements. If appropriate, we request the disbursement from the relevant financial authority.

The Yacyretá-Misiones agreement has 282 beneficiaries. Each scholarship totals 4 million guaraníes, paid in two installments. The Government of Paraguay's BecaS program supports another 179 students, with awards ranging from 10 million to 16 million guaraníes depending on the student's course and place of residence. Yacyretá administers that program directly.

So far we have received only a minimal portion, which does not even reach 50 percent of the total amount. For this reason, we are unable to make partial payments or move forward with new stages.

Cuevas also said the Misiones government has an approved budget of 3 billion guaraníes for scholarships. However, it has received only a small portion, less than 50 percent of the total. That shortfall, he said, prevents the government from making partial payments or moving ahead with new stages.

Governor Richard Ramírez and the economy minister agreed on June 18 to begin transfers in July. Cuevas said that, by September, the transfers had still not been completed and officials continued to review the situation week by week while waiting for the full amount needed to pay students.
