Missing Man in His 60s Found Dead in Stream After Heavy Rain in Gochang

A man in his 60s who disappeared during torrential rain in Gochang county, South Korea, was found dead in a nearby stream the following morning.

Firefighters found him at about 6:50 a.m. near a farm in Buan-myeon. His body lay in a stream roughly 70 meters from the place where he was reported missing.

The man had gone to a greenhouse with his son at about 12:50 p.m. the previous day. He lost contact with his son while the son went to get a pair of boots. Police and firefighters then searched an area of about four kilometers, stretching from the point of disappearance to a nearby drainage gate.

Gochang had received 187.5 millimeters of rain, including downpours of up to 60 millimeters per hour. Authorities briefly issued a heavy-rain warning and ordered residents near major streams to evacuate.

Police said they had found no apparent signs of criminal involvement and were investigating the specific cause of death.
