Missing pony Eleanor found safe, rescue charity highlights animal welfare

Relief has washed over the My Lovely Horse Rescue charity after Eleanor, a Falabella pony who went missing from their sanctuary in Co. Kildare, Ireland, was found safe and well. Eleanor had been in the care of the charity for over a year before disappearing during the June bank holiday weekend.

Volunteers launched an extensive search operation across Ireland and even into the UK, employing drones in some areas to locate the tiny pony. Eleanor was finally found on Friday, bringing an end to the anxious search. Martina Kenny, co-founder of My Lovely Horse Rescue, described the moment of finding Eleanor as "unbelievable."

She's so spoiled, she's got ribbons in her hair.

"We're not letting her out of our sight," Kenny stated, adding that Eleanor is now being thoroughly spoiled with treats and a new head collar. The pony's mane was even plaited with ribbons by children at the sanctuary. The charity used the disappearance to raise awareness about animal welfare, particularly during the recent hot weather. Kenny reported instances of horses and dogs being left tied up without access to water or shelter, urging the public to ensure animals have basic necessities.

I would love to see people really take it on board that animals do need water, food, shelter. They're the three things they really need badly.

During the search for Eleanor, the charity also assisted in rescuing another horse that had become trapped in a bog in Co. Offaly. The rescue operation saw a significant turnout from the local community, demonstrating a collective effort to help animals in distress.

So, it's not acceptable, people need to think about it. Also, locals need to get water to them. Same with dogs, they need to get water to them.
