Missiones Writers to Take Center Stage at Encarnación’s 22nd Book Fair

Writers from Paraguay’s Misiones Department will take over the main stage of the 22nd Encarnación Book Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 2, for an evening devoted to the region’s history, culture and literature.

Called “Missiones Night,” the program begins at 7:30 p.m. at the fair’s venue, the Autonomous University of Encarnación. Authors from across the department will present books based on historical research, chronicles, personal experiences and tributes to local figures.

Jorge Benítez will present “Santiago, Capital of the Adobe Jesuit Ruins: Recovered Chronicles (1884-1903),” while Stella Bogarín Frutos will launch “The Secrets of Santiago Resound: History of a Paraguayan Jesuit Reduction.” Both books were published by El Lector.

Other participants include Ruth Almada of Santa Rosa, Misiones, with “Santa Rosa de Lima: Land of the Jesuit Missions”; writer and lawyer Camilo Cantero Cabrera, with “Under the Sky of Yaguacaramigta”; and Juan Escobar Schaerer and Domingo Del Puerto, who will jointly present “8th Department, Misiones, Paraguay: History, Districts, Experiences and Families.”

The evening’s central tribute will come from journalist and writer Andrés Colman Gutiérrez, who will present “Koki Ruiz: An Artist in the Soul of His People.” Benítez said the book fair opened Sept. 1 and will remain open through Sept. 6 on Kreusser Street, between Honorio González and Independencia.
