Missouri driver fleeing police jumps head first off bridge in getaway attempt

A driver in Kimberling City, Missouri, made a dramatic attempt to evade police by jumping headfirst off a bridge on July 18. The incident was captured on dashcam footage released by the Stone County Sheriff's Office.

Police initiated a pursuit after the driver, identified as 26-year-old Gavin Thor Lundgren, fled an attempted traffic stop. Lundgren was reportedly driving at 75 miles per hour in a 45-m.p.h. zone. The chase continued onto the Kimberling City Bridge, where Lundgren exited his vehicle, ran across traffic, and then dove off the side into Table Rock Lake.

Authorities stopped Lundgren's car, which continued to roll forward while still in drive. Firefighters on a boat located Lundgren in the water, and a deputy on shore found him. During his arrest, Lundgren allegedly headbutted two deputies.

Lundgren has been charged with resisting arrest by fleeing, careless driving, third-degree assault, and interfering with an arrest. He is currently being held without bond in a county jail.
