Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has introduced a new digital tool aimed at empowering consumers in their fight against inflation. The platform, named posokanei.gov.gr, was presented via an Instagram video as a "weapon for the consumer in the battle against high prices."

Before you pay at the supermarket, you can now know where your basket is cheaper. Here. This is 'How Much Does It Cost?'. The new digital platform of the Ministry of Development and the Independent Authority for Consumer Protection, which compares prices for over 8,000 supermarket products.

The application, also available as a mobile app called "Póso Kánei" (How Much Does It Cost?), allows users to check prices for over 8,000 supermarket products. Consumers can search for specific items or scan barcodes in-store to find the lowest prices available. The platform also enables comparisons between products within the same category.

You go to posokanei.gov.gr or download the 'How Much Does It Cost?' app on your mobile, as I have done. You find the product you are interested in or, at the supermarket, you scan the barcode of the product you are interested in, you see where it is sold cheaper, while you can also compare prices for products in the same category.

Mitsotakis emphasized that the prices are updated daily, ensuring real-time information for shoppers. "The market knows that prices are compared daily and with transparency, and consequently, the market is pressured to become more competitive," he stated. While acknowledging that the platform alone cannot solve the problem of high prices, he believes it provides consumers with a crucial advantage.

The initiative, developed by the Ministry of Development and the Independent Authority for Consumer Protection, aims to increase transparency in the market. By making price comparisons readily accessible, the government hopes to foster a more competitive retail environment and provide consumers with greater control over their spending.
