Mitsotakis visits crisis center amid ongoing wildfires

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the Coordination Center for Disaster Response on Tuesday morning to receive an update on the ongoing wildfires across Greece. He was accompanied by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou.

The focus of the briefing was the critical fire situation in Porto Germeno, where strong winds continue to complicate firefighting operations. These winds have prevented aerial assets, such as planes, from conducting water drops, leaving helicopters as the primary air support. Significant ground forces are deployed, with Special Forest Fire Fighting Units penetrating difficult terrain.

Following the briefing, discussions centered on immediate anti-erosion projects for the fire-affected areas. The government also committed to assessing the damages to provide state aid to those impacted.
