MLB: Li Hao-yu Ties Taiwan's Hit Record in Return to Starting Lineup

Tigers' slugger Li Hao-yu has officially matched the record for the most hits by a Taiwanese player in a single Major League Baseball season. On Sunday, Li returned to the starting lineup and recorded one hit in three at-bats, bringing his season total to 54 hits. This ties the mark previously set by Chang Yu-cheng in 2021.

Playing against the White Sox, Li started as the second batter and third baseman. In his first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning, he grounded a soft hit to the pitcher for an infield single. He later scored a run thanks to a teammate's hit. In subsequent at-bats, Li hit a fly ball to center field and grounded out to third base.

Despite Li's milestone, the Detroit Tigers ultimately fell to the Chicago White Sox with a score of 3-4, marking their second consecutive loss. Li was replaced by a pinch hitter in the eighth inning. His current batting average stands at .266, with an on-base percentage of .298 and a slugging percentage of .419, resulting in an OPS of 0.717.

In addition to his offensive achievement, Li also contributed defensively, participating in a "1-5-3" double play in the top of the second inning. For the final game of the series on Monday, the White Sox are scheduled to start right-handed pitcher Sean Burke. Li Hao-yu is anticipated to be back on the bench for this matchup.
