MLC Dharmendra Bhardwaj opens teacher assistance and grievance support service

On Teachers’ Day, MLC Dharmendra Kumar Bhardwaj opened a support service for educators in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut-Ghaziabad Local Authorities constituency. The service is intended to help teachers navigate problems involving honorariums, welfare benefits, service matters, records and access to existing government schemes.

The public office will record a complaint, provide a dated acknowledgement, identify the competent department where possible and forward the representation through the appropriate channel. It will also maintain a follow-up record. The service will not charge teachers and will not collect money in the name of teacher welfare.

Respecting teachers also means allowing their energy to remain in the classroom rather than in searching for files. The clearer the system, the more confidently a teacher can teach.

Bhardwaj stressed that the office cannot replace government departments. It will not decide transfers, release salaries, approve medical claims, change service records or sanction benefits. Those powers remain with the relevant authorities. Its role is to help educators identify where a problem belongs, determine whether documents are missing and track what happens after a representation is submitted.

The announcement follows the Uttar Pradesh government’s approval in April 2026 of higher monthly honorariums for Shiksha Mitras and part-time instructors. The Shiksha Mitra honorarium rose from Rs 10,000 to Rs 18,000, while the amount for part-time instructors increased from Rs 9,000 to Rs 17,000, with both changes applying from April 2026.

Bhardwaj said the immediate need was to help affected workers flag delayed payments, documentation problems and other implementation issues without claiming credit for the state government’s decision. “A teacher who comes with a genuine problem should not be sent from one desk to another without even knowing where the matter stands,” he said. “My office cannot replace the department, but it can make sure the representation is properly recorded, sent to the right place and followed up.”

Teachers’ Day should not end when the flowers are removed from the stage. The next morning, the unresolved salary, medical, service or documentation problem is still there. That is where public service has to begin.
