MLS investigates Inter Miami over Casemiro signing amid Galaxy complaint

Major League Soccer (MLS) has launched an investigation into Inter Miami's signing of midfielder Casemiro, citing potential violations related to unauthorized contact with the player. The probe was initiated following a complaint filed by the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Galaxy allege that Inter Miami made contact with Casemiro prematurely. Under MLS rules, the Los Angeles Galaxy held the "discovery rights" for Casemiro, granting them exclusive negotiation privileges. Any team wishing to sign a player under discovery rights must first secure an agreement with the club holding those rights.

"Major League Soccer is reviewing an allegation of tampering against Inter Miami," the league stated in a release. "The league is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from making further comment until the review is finalized."

While Inter Miami announced the signing of the Brazilian midfielder to a contract through May 2027, with an option to extend until the end of the 2029 season, the club has not clarified which roster spot Casemiro will occupy. Inter Miami currently has no available Designated Player slots, which allow for salaries outside the league's strict salary cap.

The league indicated that while Inter Miami and the Los Angeles Galaxy have reached an agreement regarding discovery priority for Casemiro, the specific terms will be disclosed upon the completion of the tampering investigation. Casemiro's transfer is also contingent on him obtaining a work visa.
