Mobile police post to be installed near Talca prison amid resident concerns

Authorities will permanently install a mobile police post in the Aldea Campesina sector, near the La Laguna Prison in Talca, to address growing concerns among local residents. The decision comes after significant criticism regarding the mass transfer of inmates to the facility, which has heightened security worries in the community.

The mobile unit will be operational daily between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Outside these hours, preventive patrols will be conducted to bolster security and ensure the community's peace of mind. This initiative aims to mitigate potential issues associated with the increased prison population and provide a visible security presence.

Minister of Justice Fernando Rabat highlighted that this measure fulfills a promise made by the President of the Republic. The commitment was to ensure the area surrounding the prison would not become a "campamento" (encampment), a concern voiced by residents during a meeting. The installation of the mobile post is seen as the materialization of that promise, directly responding to the community's anxieties.
