Moderna's mRNA Flu Vaccine Gets U.S. Green Light for Adults 50+

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Moderna's new influenza vaccine, mFLUSIVA, marking a significant advancement in mRNA vaccine technology for the flu. The vaccine is now authorized for all adults aged 50 and above, with Moderna planning to make it available for the 2026-2027 respiratory virus season.

Moderna, alongside competitor BioNTech-Pfizer, pioneered mRNA vaccine technology with their highly successful COVID-19 vaccines, which generated billions in revenue. These COVID-19 vaccines are recognized globally for their safety and efficacy in preventing severe illness. The approval of mFLUSIVA signifies a potential new era for mRNA applications in combating other infectious diseases like influenza.
