Modi says his ‘homeopathic dose’ exposed ‘dimaagi naxals’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi revived his “dimaagi naxal” attack on Opposition parties during a speech marking the centenary of Delhi University's Shri Ram College of Commerce. He said his earlier reference to the term in his Independence Day speech had drawn his critics into the open.

“Jaise hi maine dimaagi naxal wali homepathy ki goli di, sare dimaagi naxal nikal nikal ke bahar aanay lage aur jo is bimari ko badhawa de rahe hain ab janta unka bhi asli rang dekh rahi hai,” Modi said, in an indirect attack on his critics. The phrase, which combines the idea of mental conditioning with Naxalism, has become part of his political attacks on opponents.

Modi also repeated his warning to Pakistan. He said Indian forces would enter Pakistani territory and strike if Pakistan carried out terrorist activities on Indian soil. “Today, those spreading terrorism are on the back foot. If Pakistan indulges in any misadventure, India's armed forces will enter their territory and strike,” he said.

He said peace had increased from Jammu and Kashmir to the Northeast and claimed that Maoist terrorism and Naxalism had been weakened. He added that the world, once concerned about India's policy paralysis, was now discussing its policy dynamism.

At the centenary event, Modi congratulated SRCC's students, faculty and alumni, calling the institution's former students “OGs” in the language of the college. He highlighted the careers of alumni such as Arun Jaitley and Sanjeev Sanyal, and said the college's influence extended beyond economics.
