Modi visits France, Slovakia for G7 Summit and bilateral talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a significant international tour, commencing with an official visit to France and a state visit to Slovakia. The trip, spanning from June 13 to June 19, 2026, underscores India's deepening strategic partnerships and its engagement on global platforms.

Both leaders will review the full spectrum of the India-France bilateral relationship, which was elevated to the level of a Special Global Strategic Partnership earlier this year.

In France, Modi met with President Emmanuel Macron in Nice for discussions covering the full spectrum of the India-France Special Global Strategic Partnership. A key event during this leg was the joint inauguration of the 'Bharat Innovates' event, designed to foster collaboration among startups and venture capital funds from India, France, and other nations. This initiative aligns with the India-France Year of Innovation, highlighting the robust partnership in this sector.

This signature event reinforces the vibrant innovation partnership that exists between the two countries.

The Prime Minister then proceeded to Slovakia for a state visit, marking the first by an Indian premier since the country's independence in 1993. This visit follows recent high-level exchanges, including President Droupadi Murmu's trip in April 2025 and Slovak President Peter Pellegrini's visit to India in February 2026. Talks with Prime Minister Robert Fico and President Pellegrini were set to explore new avenues for cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and manufacturing sectors like automobiles and railways.

This will be the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since its independence in 1993.

Modi's itinerary also included participation in the G7 Summit in Evian, France, on June 16-17, 2026. Here, he was slated to engage with G7 leaders and invited partners on critical global issues such as forging new partnerships, rebuilding international solidarity, promoting sustainable economic growth, and the rollout of artificial intelligence. The summit provided a platform for India to exchange views on pressing international matters. The Prime Minister's visit concluded with engagements in Paris, including attending the VivaTech Summit, Europe's largest technology and startup event, and addressing members of the Indian diaspora.
