Monastir: U.S. Ambassador Affirms Commitment to Strengthening Cooperation with Palace of Science

U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia, Bill Bazzi, stated Wednesday that his embassy intends to bolster cooperation with the Monastir Palace of Science to support the advancement of science, technology, and innovation. During a visit to the institution, the American diplomat praised its role in disseminating scientific culture and promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) disciplines among Tunisian youth and educators.

Bazzi reaffirmed his country's commitment to developing partnerships in these fields. He noted that the visit builds upon existing cooperation, which has included hosting three American experts through the "Fulbright Specialist Program," organizing an event with a NASA speaker, and donating a 3D printer to the Palace's digital fabrication laboratory (Fab Lab), along with specialized scientific books focused on the "STEM Learning" pedagogical approach.

"These initiatives reflect the United States' commitment to fostering innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship," Bazzi stated. "They also illustrate the importance of international partnerships in expanding teaching and learning opportunities and opening new avenues for cooperation in science and technology."

The ambassador also commended the strong Tunisian-American relationship, which spans over 230 years. He recalled the state visit of leader Habib Bourguiba to the United States during John F. Kennedy's presidency and mentioned visiting Bourguiba's mausoleum in Monastir earlier that day.

A statement from the Monastir Palace of Science indicated that the visit highlighted the institution's role in promoting scientific culture and innovation among young people. It also provided an opportunity to explore potential cooperation with American scientific centers and museums regarding science popularization and expertise exchange.
