Monster Pabrik Rambut Wins Awards at Fantasia Festival

The Indonesian horror film "Monster Pabrik Rambut" (Sleep No More) has achieved international recognition, securing two awards at the 30th Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, Canada. The Palari Films production earned the Best Screenplay award and a Special Mention of the Jury for Special Practical Effects in the main Cheval Noir competition.

The Best Screenplay award was presented to the writing team of Edwin, Eka Kurniawan, and Daishi Matsunaga. The jury lauded the unique narrative presented in the film, a multinational collaboration involving Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, Germany, and France. Beyond its script, "Monster Pabrik Rambut" also captivated audiences with its visual execution, earning a Special Jury Mention for its practical effects team, comprising Jabrik Hellworker, AAT, and Issei Oda. The jury highlighted the effective integration of handmade effects with VFX to create a surreal nightmare atmosphere.

Director Edwin stated that the film's storyline emerged from his concerns about the increasingly unhealthy dynamics of the modern work world. The central theme, packaged in the body horror genre, addresses the exploitation and excessive demands placed upon workers. "Our world is getting sicker and increasingly normalized to the point of the absurd and terrifying. People are forced to regrow their body parts to survive hours of forced labor. For what, and for whom?" Edwin said in an official statement.

Prior to its success in Canada, the film, starring Rachel Amanda, Lutesha, Iqbaal Ramadhan, Didik Nini Thowok, Sal Priadi, and Luqman "Kev" Hakim, also won the Best Production Design Award at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland. This recognition at the Fantasia International Film Festival, known as one of North America's most influential festivals for fantastic and horror films, further solidifies Palari Films' reputation for producing quality works with global appeal.
