Montenegrin police investigate over 50 foreigners with hundreds of digital devices

Montenegrin police are scrutinizing more than 50 foreign nationals, predominantly from Ukraine, who were discovered in a house in Podgorica possessing hundreds of digital devices and a significant amount of money. The discovery has prompted a large-scale investigation, with local media reporting that authorities suspect the group may be linked to online fraud activities.

The individuals found in the residence, located in the Mareza area on the outskirts of Podgorica, also included citizens of Moldova and Slovakia. Police have stated that the case is in its preliminary investigation phase, focusing on verifying their residency, activities, and the purpose of the sophisticated equipment seized. The sheer volume of digital devices and other equipment required a truck for transport, highlighting the scale of the operation.

A substantial sum of money was also recovered, and its origin and potential connection to the activities of those detained are now under examination. While police have not yet confirmed any criminal offenses or formally identified suspects, initial reports from Podgorica media suggest a suspicion of involvement in online scams. The seized devices are expected to undergo forensic analysis as part of the ongoing police and prosecutor investigation.

In response to the complexity of the case, the Director of the Police Administration has established a dedicated operational team. This team comprises specialists in cybersecurity, high-tech crime, financial investigations, money laundering, international police cooperation, and immigration matters. The National Security Agency is also involved, and the investigation is being coordinated with the state prosecutor's office.
