Montenegro Battles Multiple Wildfires Amidst Strong Winds

Firefighters in Montenegro are engaged in a relentless battle against multiple wildfires that have been burning for several days. In Herceg Novi, the primary focus is on defending residential areas, particularly in settlements near Zelenika, where the fire continues to spread. The situation remains challenging, with crews working to protect houses and other structures from the advancing flames.

As for today, in the morning, very, very bad, catastrophic one could say, and already in the afternoon hours with the action of the Army of Montenegro's helicopter, the situation is significantly better, especially on the stretch from Bijela to Baošići.

Meanwhile, in the Ulcinj municipality, firefighters and volunteers are facing difficulties due to strong winds that are exacerbating the fire's intensity and spread. Despite these challenges, teams are working with all available resources to control the blaze and prevent further damage. The fire, which reportedly began in the village of Briska Gora, is currently the most active.

To bolster containment efforts, military helicopters from the Montenegrin Army have been deployed, significantly improving the situation in some areas. Additionally, firefighting services are receiving support from neighboring municipalities, with crews from Berane, Bijelo Polje, Žabljak, and Plav expected to join the efforts. The collaboration aims to bring the multiple fires under control.

Beyond Herceg Novi and Ulcinj, fires are also active in other parts of the country. Nikšić is experiencing fires near Slanog Jezera and on Strmina, though no structures are reported to be under threat there. Active fires also persist in Velje Duboko in Kolašin and on Lisinj mountain in Bar, indicating a widespread and persistent wildfire situation across Montenegro.

More firefighters and volunteers are on the ground with all available means. There were risky situations in a few places, but we are doing everything in our power and are here to monitor the situation to prevent more serious consequences.
