Montero marks 172nd anniversary with civic and cultural celebrations

Montero marked its 172nd founding anniversary with a day of civic, religious and cultural ceremonies honoring the city’s patron saint, San Ramón Nonato.

The program began with a civic ceremony at the 2 de Diciembre main square. Municipal authorities, Santa Cruz Governor Juan Pablo Velasco, lawmakers, departmental assembly members, councilors, students and representatives of local institutions took part.

Participants then attended a Te Deum at Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes parish, followed by the raising of flags, a floral offering before the image of the patron saint and the traditional civic parade. Children carried flags in Montero’s colors, while students appeared in Camba dress and took part in the procession with a clay oven.

Velasco and Vice Governor Paola Aguirre also joined activities held ahead of the anniversary, accompanying residents of Montero. The celebration combined official ceremony with local traditions and displays of regional identity.

Montero is the second-most populous municipality in Santa Cruz department and one of the main productive centers of the Norte Integrado. Its economy is highlighted for agricultural, commercial and industrial activity.
