Montevideo Announces Weekend Traffic Closures for Construction and Events

Montevideo residents and commuters should prepare for significant traffic disruptions across the capital starting Friday, August 7, as the Intendencia de Montevideo (IMM) announced a series of planned road closures and diversions. These measures will affect various zones throughout the weekend, impacting daily travel and access to different parts of the city.

The closures are attributed to a range of activities, including concrete pouring, sanitation work, crane assembly, and general repairs. Specific streets like Carlos Roxlo (between Guayabos and José Enrique Rodó), Basilio Pereira de la Luz (between Luis Lamas and 26 de Marzo), and Juan A. Rodríguez (between José Enrique Rodó and Guayabos) will experience work between 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM on Friday. Other areas, such as Coronilla, Avenida Colombes, and Plácido Ellauri, will also face morning and afternoon disruptions.

Saturday, August 8, will see continued work on infrastructure projects, including road advancements, crane installations, and sanitation efforts on streets like Pedro Giralt, Aquiles Lanza, and Soriano. Minor repairs and demolition work are also scheduled in central areas.

The most substantial impact is expected on Sunday, August 9. The 15th edition of the Half Marathon, featuring 5, 10, and 21-kilometer races, will cause closures along the Rambla Baltasar Brum and San Fructuoso up to Rambla Gandhi and Errazquin from 4:00 AM to 1:00 PM. While most of the Rambla will reopen by 1:00 PM, the intersection of Ciudadela and Misiones will remain closed until 3:00 PM for the dismantling of race structures. Additionally, the 190th anniversary celebration of the National Party will lead to traffic restrictions in the Ciudad Vieja area, including closures on Juan Carlos Gómez street from Rincón to the pedestrian zone starting early Saturday morning.
