Montevideo modifies bus routes to boost neighborhood connectivity

Montevideo's public transport authority, the IMM, is set to implement significant changes to bus services L31, L32, and L33 starting June 22. These modifications, concentrated in the Toledo Chico area of municipality D, aim to enhance public transport accessibility in neighborhoods with historically low service frequency.

The primary goal is to extend service to the Régulo neighborhood, which currently lacks nearby stops, and to improve the connection between Espigas high school and its surrounding areas. The high school, serving an increasing number of students from Régulo, Cirilo, and the Instrucciones and Belloni terminals, has been a focal point for these service adjustments.

Route L33 will be discontinued, with its service area partially covered by the L31 line, including new access via Camino Antares. The L32 line will continue to link the Instrucciones and Belloni terminals with the Manga terminal but will cease serving the Trasatlántico neighborhood, a gap that the L33 line will fill when heading towards La Calera and Avenida de las Instrucciones.

Specific route adjustments include a new sub-line for L31 serving the Instrucciones and Mendoza terminal, originating from the Cirilo neighborhood. Another L31 sub-line will enter the Cirilo neighborhood from Avenida José Belloni. The L32 line will also adjust its destination to the Instrucciones and Mendoza terminal, rerouting from the Trasatlántico neighborhood. The "new" L33 will feature two sub-lines to accommodate school schedules, with one heading towards Berges-El Jardín.
