Montevideo roadworks to cause detours on Avenida Centenario and Avenida Italia

The Intendancy of Montevideo (IMM) is set to begin significant repaving work on Avenida Centenario, a major thoroughfare, starting Monday, July 20, and continuing through Friday, July 31. The project will impact traffic and public transportation, particularly during nighttime hours.

During the day, from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, crews will focus on repairing curbs and patching sections of the road where the concrete base has failed. This aims to minimize disruption to daily traffic. However, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Avenida Centenario will be completely closed to all vehicles within the specified stretch, between Avenida Italia and Escuder Nuñez.

This nighttime closure will significantly affect public transport. Bus lines 76, 115, 185, 186, 316, and 328, which normally travel north on Avenida Centenario, will be rerouted. They will divert onto Avenida Italia, then proceed along Escuder Nuñez before resuming their regular routes. Temporary bus stops will be set up at Escuder Núñez esquina Belgrano and Escuder Núñez esquina República Dominicana, replacing the suspended stops on Avenida Centenario.

The infrastructure work will be carried out by the company CVC. Residents near the construction sites will be provided with hearing protection due to the noise from heavy machinery during the night. Additionally, parking will be prohibited along the entire affected section of the avenue from Monday to Friday. The IMM notes that the schedule is subject to weather conditions.
