Montreal Victoire's missing Walter Cup trophy found and reunited with team

The Walter Cup, the championship trophy of the Montreal Victoire, has been recovered after going missing during shipment, the Professional Women's Hockey League announced Monday. The league provided few details about the incident but expressed gratitude to everyone involved in tracking down the trophy and to fans for their support.

The trophy disappeared last week when it failed to arrive in Lethbridge, Alberta, where it was scheduled to be presented to Victoire forward Dara Greig. While a container did reach the city, it did not contain the PWHL-shipped trophy. The league humorously noted that "even the Walter Cup can have a little offseason adventure."

It remains unclear exactly where the trophy was located or how it became lost, with the PWHL stating only that it was "lost in shipment." Unlike the NHL's Stanley Cup, the PWHL does not assign a dedicated person to travel with its trophy when it visits players. The league had been working with its shipping company to find the missing item.

The recovered trophy is a "keeper" cup, a replica of the original sterling silver Walter Cup designed by Tiffany & Co. This replica weighs approximately 35 pounds (16 kilograms) and stands about 24 inches (61 centimeters) tall. The Montreal Victoire won the cup in May by defeating Ottawa, becoming the PWHL's first Canadian champion. The trophy is named after PWHL founder Mark Walter and his wife, Kimbra.
