Mooseland Road fire northeast of Halifax held, evacuation order lifted

Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources reported that the Mooseland Road Fire in the Jacket Lake area, northeast of Halifax, continues to be held. The province stated the fire has not expanded since Sunday afternoon and covers an estimated 1,447 hectares as of Monday morning.

Ground crews are actively working at the site with heavy equipment. Two Department of Natural Resources helicopters are assisting with transportation and aerial surveillance. Officials indicated that while fixed-wing aircraft are available, they are not expected to be necessary.

The fire, which initially became out of control Thursday evening, led to an evacuation order for about 100 homes, cottages, and cabins in the rural area. This evacuation order was lifted Sunday morning.

Mooseland Road remains closed, but the closure has been shortened and now extends between civic addresses 2124 and 2890.
