Moraes Denies Bolsonaro Father's Day Visit Request

Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes has rejected a request from former President Jair Bolsonaro's defense team to allow his sons to visit him on Father's Day while he is under house arrest. The decision, issued on Saturday, denies Flávio, Carlos, and Jair Renan Bolsonaro the chance to see their father on Sunday.

Moraes cited a prior ruling from July 17, 2026, which suspended all visits except for medical, physical therapy, and legal appointments for a 30-day period. This suspension directly impacts the Father's Day visit request, rendering it moot.

The previous suspension of family visits stemmed from a letter Jair Bolsonaro had his son Flávio read on social media. The minister deemed this action a violation of the terms of Bolsonaro's house arrest. The defense had argued that the Father's Day visit request was strictly humanitarian and familial, and would not interfere with Bolsonaro's sentence or court-imposed restrictions.

Bolsonaro is currently serving a sentence at home for an alleged coup attempt. His son Eduardo Bolsonaro, who is in the United States, was not included in the request. Eduardo Bolsonaro himself faces a prison sentence for his role in intimidating the Brazilian judiciary.
