Morawiecki sets Oct. 15 deadline for new party formation

Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has set October 15 as the deadline for the formation of a new political party. The party will stem from the "Rozwój Plus" association, and its launch is seen as a definitive break from the Law and Justice (PiS) party.

Morawiecki indicated that the leadership of PiS intended to push them out, citing recent statements from PiS party discipline spokesperson Karol Karski. Karski suggested that the membership of 40 individuals who formed a new parliamentary club, despite still being PiS members, was effectively "dead." Morawiecki interpreted this as a deliberate move by the PiS leadership to expel them.

He announced a convention for October 15, the anniversary of the 2023 parliamentary elections, promising to demonstrate a force with experience, courage, and a program ready to take responsibility for the country.

The politicians associated with "Rozwój Plus" have already established a separate parliamentary club. This club, comprising 40 deputies, will be the third-largest in the Sejm, following the Civic Coalition (KO) club with 156 deputies and the PiS club with 147 deputies.
