More than 50 families displaced by Zamboanga fire

A devastating fire swept through a seaside residential area in Barangay Sangali, Zamboanga City, early Friday morning, destroying at least 40 houses and displacing around 60 families. The blaze, which occurred before dawn on August 14, consumed homes primarily constructed from semi-permanent materials.

Officials from the Bureau of Fire Protection 9 and local executives are currently investigating the cause of the fire in Cambodia Purok 1. The affected communities largely belong to the Tausug and Sama ethnic groups of Zamboanga City, with some Yakan residents from the nearby Basilan island province also impacted.

In response to the disaster, the office of Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso and the Department of Social Welfare 9 swiftly provided essential food and supplies to the displaced families. These families are now temporarily housed in makeshift evacuation facilities as they cope with the loss of their homes.
