Morelos Transfers Eight High-Risk Inmates Linked to Extortion to Coahuila

Morelos authorities have urgently transferred eight high-risk inmates, allegedly involved in extortion rackets, from state prisons to the federal prison in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila. The operation, conducted Monday morning, utilized a Mexican Air Force aircraft and involved security personnel from the Army, National Guard, and state police.

Among those moved are individuals identified as Pascual “N” (alias "El Pato"), Rafael “N” (alias “El Niño de Oro”), “El Edson,” “El Glue,” “El Mimoso,” and “La Cebra.” Officials state these inmates were orchestrating extortion schemes from within the Morelos state prison system. Seven operated from the Cereso Morelos facility, while one was held in the Jojutla men's jail.

This move is part of Morelos's "Morelos por la Seguridad" strategy to combat phone-based extortion originating from prisons and to maintain control over the state's penitentiary system. Between January and July 2026, authorities reported resolving over 150 extortion cases in the region, leading to 58 arrests and 55 seizures of illicit substances.
