Morena Party Unveils Legislative Agenda in Mexico City, Prioritizing Dignified Death and Social Rights

The Morena parliamentary group in Mexico City has laid out its legislative agenda for the upcoming session, signaling a commitment to advancing a range of social and legal reforms. Among the key proposals are initiatives focused on ensuring a dignified death, implementing fair rent policies, and finalizing the General Development Plan.

During their plenary meeting, attended by Mexico City's Head of Government Clara Brugada, the party's coordinator Xóchitl Bravo highlighted their legislative priorities. While specific timelines for the Fair Rent Law and the General Development Plan were not provided, Bravo stressed the group's responsibility to fulfill the public's mandate and consolidate rights recognized by Mexico City's constitution, described as the most progressive in Latin America.

Bravo outlined that the legislative agenda centers on harmonizing laws to ensure the effective application of the Public Care System Law. The group also intends to incorporate initiatives proposed by the Head of Government and legislate to protect homeless individuals, ensuring their access to health services and shelters. Furthermore, Morena plans to legislate on neurodivergences and enhance human rights protections and social reintegration for incarcerated individuals.

The party also announced plans to update laws concerning missing persons, the penal code, and the DNA bank, alongside the Law of Absence Declaration and the Law of Memory of Mexico City. Regarding the General Development Plan, Bravo stated that they would not approve it automatically but would instead hold open forums to gather input and enrich the document. Bravo urged other political groups to review the Fair Rent Law before rejecting it and confirmed their commitment to addressing the issue of dignified death, which is a demand from various collectives.
