Morena suspends rights of deputies over discriminatory comments and mockery of older adults

Morena's National Commission of Honesty and Justice (CNHJ) has suspended the party rights of Puebla local deputies Nayeli Salvatori Bojalil and Elvia Graciela "Grace" Palomares Ramírez. The measure follows discriminatory comments and mockery directed at older adults on their podcast, "DesCasadas."

During a July 21 episode, the two ruling party deputies made disparaging remarks, including that older adults "smell like a trunk" and "are rotting." The national leadership of Morena confirmed the suspension is an internal party action, restricting their participation in assemblies, committees, and other decision-making bodies within Morena.

This precautionary suspension does not impact their legislative roles or their positions as deputies in the Puebla Congress. The CNHJ has ordered them to refrain from repeating or justifying the offensive content and to distance the party from their personal expressions.

The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) has condemned the deputies' statements and called for sanctions against discriminatory discourse targeting older adults. The situation highlights ongoing concerns about respectful public discourse and the impact of public figures' comments.
