Morocco's PJD Condemns 'Flotilla of Steadfastness' Over Sahara Issue, Demands Apology

Morocco's Justice and Development Party (PJD) has strongly condemned what it calls "grave and misleading misrepresentations" published by the "Global Flotilla of Steadfastness" regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue. The party issued a stark warning against what it perceives as a "dangerous deviation" that could alienate the popular support the initiative has garnered.

In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Abdelilah Benkirane, the PJD asserted that a film released by the flotilla platform contained a "clear distortion" of the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion and disregarded relevant UN Security Council resolutions, most recently Resolution 2797. The party criticized the flotilla's administration for involving itself in a matter that is not its concern.

The PJD specifically denounced the "confusion" sown regarding the Kingdom's territorial integrity, condemning the flotilla's involvement in the Moroccan sovereignty file. The party emphasized that the initiative was established by international figures with the sole, declared purpose of "contributing to breaking the Zionist blockade on the Gaza Strip." The PJD stated that these figures would not have participated had they been aware of this "serious deviation and grave error" concerning Morocco.

The party stressed that this "dangerous penetration" of the flotilla would not alter the established historical and legal facts of the Sahara's Moroccan identity and the Kingdom's sovereignty over its southern provinces. These facts, it noted, are supported by broad Moroccan public consensus, UN Security Council decisions, and the stances of major international powers, including permanent members of the Security Council. The PJD urged members of the "Global Flotilla of Steadfastness" to recognize that this "slippery slope" places them in direct confrontation with all segments of the Moroccan people, as the Moroccan Sahara issue is a matter of national territorial unity that is not subject to negotiation. The party demanded that the flotilla's administration issue a "formal apology and correct this grave error."
