Mother allegedly kills daughter, then herself, after family quarrel

A tragic incident unfolded in Tangail's Mirzapur upazila, where a 25-year-old woman, Konika Begum, allegedly killed her four-year-old daughter, Razia, before hanging herself. Police are investigating the deaths, which appear to have followed a family quarrel.

According to local police and residents, Konika Begum, from Dhamrai upazila, had been married to Rajib Hossain of Mirzapur for six years. Sources indicate that Rajib Hossain was a drug addict and unemployed, leading to frequent arguments over financial difficulties and his inability to support his family. Konika Begum also reportedly experienced ongoing disputes with her in-laws.

The situation escalated after an argument with Konika, Rajib Hossain reportedly left their home and did not return. The following morning, Konika Begum left with her daughter, Razia, intending to visit her father. However, her father-in-law, Nazim Uddin, brought them back to the house.

Around 10:00 AM, Konika Begum was discovered hanging from the ceiling of a room, while her daughter Razia was found dead on the bed. A team from the Mirzapur Police Station recovered the bodies and sent them for autopsy at the Tangail General Hospital morgue. Abdullah Al Mamun, the officer-in-charge of Mirzapur Police Station, stated that investigators believe Konika Begum suffocated her daughter with a pillow before committing suicide.
