Mother faces double tragedy after sons die in Boyacá motorcycle crash

A tragic accident on a rural road in Boyacá, Colombia, has claimed the lives of two brothers, Juver Santiago Durán Cuadrado, 16, and Kevin Alejandro Gil Cuadrado, 8. The siblings died when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a truck while they were en route to help their mother with agricultural work.

The accident occurred on Saturday on the road connecting Tunja and Chiquinquirá. According to a local official who requested anonymity, the three siblings were traveling together on a motorcycle. Juver Santiago was driving, Kevin Alejandro was in the middle, and their 12-year-old sister, Melany Xiomara, was riding behind. Their mother was reportedly on another motorcycle with another person, heading to the same onion field.

While police reports indicate all three minors were wearing helmets, Juver Santiago died at the scene. Kevin Alejandro was taken to Villa de Leyva Hospital but arrived without vital signs. Melany Xiomara survived the impact and was transferred to Hospital San Rafael in Tunja, where she is currently recovering.

The family, described as rural workers with limited resources, is now facing immense grief and financial strain. The community of Sáchica and surrounding areas are preparing to bid farewell to the young brothers. In response to their plight, neighbors and friends have launched a solidarity campaign, including a 'teletón' (telethon), to raise funds for the funeral costs and to support their mother, Yamile Rocío Cuadrado, during this devastating time.

What apparently happened is that Juver Santiago was on the Yamaha 200; Kevin Alejandro, the little one, was in the middle, and Melany Xiomara rode behind. Meanwhile, on the other motorcycle, driven by their mother, there was apparently another person who would help in the cultivation.
