Mother of Boy Murdered by Father Details Relationship and Separation

Consuelo Rodríguez, the mother of Gabriel Esteban González, a four-year-old boy murdered by his father in 2020, has spoken about the beginning of her relationship with the perpetrator and the reasons for their separation. The father, Gabriel González Cubillos, died in prison in 2023 after being sentenced to 45 years.

Rodríguez shared in the podcast Conducta Delictiva how she met González Cubillos while they worked in adjacent clothing stores in a Bogotá shopping center. Initially, he was very attentive, sending her fruit salads and showing constant care, which she found appealing after a period of being alone.

Their relationship progressed, and after Rodríguez experienced complications during her pregnancy, she moved in with him. She described his initial attentiveness but noted that controlling behaviors emerged later in their relationship, ultimately leading to their separation.

The father took Gabriel Esteban for a scheduled visit in Melgar, Tolima, and later confessed his plans in a hidden video on a USB drive, which became part of the investigation. The case also led to the creation of the Ley Gabriel Esteban, a law aimed at preventing similar tragedies.
