Mother of young woman fatally shot in Turkey demands justice

The mother of Ece Naz Macit, a young woman who died after being shot in the head in Turkey's Kocaeli province, has tearfully appealed for justice, demanding that those responsible for her daughter's death be held accountable.

Macit, 19, was reportedly shot in the head from behind while preparing food in the kitchen of a friend's house in Darıca on June 29. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with her mother, Döne Macit, expressing profound grief and disbelief.

Three individuals who were present at the house during the incident – two 19-year-old men and a 17-year-old girl – were taken into custody by police. During their interrogation, the suspects reportedly implicated each other. All three have since been arrested by court order.

Döne Macit spoke out against online speculation and criticism regarding her daughter's presence at the friend's house, emphasizing that Ece Naz was a kind and trusting young woman. She pleaded for support from officials and the public, highlighting the ease with which young lives are lost and questioning when society will take action. "My child was eaten by them. I want justice," she stated, demanding that all three suspects be tried for their alleged roles in the fatal shooting.
