MotoGP: Jorge Martin Sets New Lap Record to Claim Silverstone Pole

Jorge Martin has claimed pole position at the British MotoGP at Silverstone, setting a blistering new lap record of 1 minute 56.160 seconds. The Aprilia Racing rider emerged fastest after the summer break, edging out Raul Fernandez by a mere 0.021 seconds to secure the first pole position of the second half of the season. Ai Ogura, Martin's teammate at Trackhouse MotoGP Team, completed the front row, slotting into third place.

The qualifying session saw the top six riders in the current Championship standings also occupying the top six spots on the grid, though their order was mixed. Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) qualified fourth, followed by Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) in fifth, and Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) in sixth.

Silverstone's qualifying was not without drama. Several former winners, including Fabio Quartararo, Francesco Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini, and Alex Rins, found themselves in Q1, battling for a chance to advance to the final qualifying session. Franco Morbidelli and Diogo Moreira were initially in qualifying positions, but Iker Lecuona produced a strong final lap to secure a spot in Q2. Quartararo narrowly missed out on Q2 by just 0.050 seconds, qualifying 13th.

In Q2, the lead changed hands multiple times. Marco Bezzecchi briefly topped the timesheets before Raul Fernandez set a new lap record of 1:56.181. Ai Ogura moved into second, and Fabio Di Giannantonio climbed to third. However, Jorge Martin delivered a stellar final flying lap to snatch pole position. Bezzecchi qualified fifth, with Di Giannantonio being the only rider outside of Aprilia to break into the top six. Alex Marquez will start seventh, followed by Morbidelli and Pedro Acosta. Iker Lecuona qualified an impressive 10th.
