Motorcycle Taxi Driver Chases Car to South Jakarta Mall After Phone Is Allegedly Run Over

A dispute in Tebet, South Jakarta, ended with mediation after a motorcycle taxi driver said a car had run over his phone.

Police said the incident began at about 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, when the driver, identified as Dendy, dropped his phone while riding. He later said the phone was allegedly run over by a passing car.

According to the person concerned, the phone was allegedly run over by a vehicle driven by the car driver.

Dendy tried to stop the car and ask for an explanation, but the vehicle continued toward a mall. He briefly shouted “thief” in an effort to stop it. The car entered through the mall’s second access gate and was stopped by another visitor’s vehicle in the main lobby, where an argument drew the attention of other shoppers.

Mall security separated the two men and mediated between them. The motorcycle taxi driver apologized and signed a written statement, while the car driver said he would not take the matter to court. Tebet police said they received no report because both sides agreed to settle the dispute amicably through the mall management.
