Motorcyclist Caught Driving Double Legal Alcohol Limit on Expressway

Authorities apprehended a motorcyclist on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway for driving with double the legal limit of alcohol in his system. The individual was stopped on August 6 around 10:20 a.m. after being detected traveling at the Km6 mark of the expressway, heading towards Lao Cai from Hanoi.

During a sobriety test, the driver, identified as Mr. L. from Soc Son, Hanoi, registered a blood alcohol content of 0.83 mg/l of breath. This level is more than twice the maximum permissible limit of 0.4 mg/l.

In addition to the drunk driving offense, Mr. L. was also cited for operating a motorcycle on the expressway, a prohibited act. Consequently, he faces a combined penalty of a 14 million VND fine, a 23-month suspension of his driver's license, and temporary impoundment of his vehicle.

This incident follows another traffic stop on August 5 where a car driver was caught speeding and driving under the influence on the same expressway. That driver, Mr. A., had a blood alcohol content of 0.949 mg/l and was fined 40 million VND, had his license suspended for 23 months, and his vehicle impounded for 10 days. The police are using these cases to warn against the dangers of impaired driving, especially on high-speed expressways.
