Motorcyclist Dies in Head-On Crash with Ambulance

A 79-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a head-on collision with an ambulance on Federal Road 70 near Lingen, Germany. The accident occurred on August 14, 2026.

The motorcyclist, identified as a resident of Twist, died at the scene. The crew of the ambulance and a patient being transported remained physically unharmed. However, the 27-year-old ambulance driver experienced shock following the incident.

According to police reports, the ambulance, operated by the German Red Cross, was traveling towards Meppen with its emergency lights and siren activated. The driver had reportedly overtaken two cars, whose drivers had moved to the grass verge. At the same time, the driver of an oncoming car slowed down and moved to the right edge of the road.

Police stated that the 79-year-old motorcyclist, for reasons yet to be determined, attempted to overtake this car. During the maneuver, he collided head-on with the oncoming ambulance.

Federal Road 70 was closed between the Laxten and Altenlingen junctions to allow for investigation and cleanup operations. Authorities indicated the road closure would likely last until late afternoon.
