Motorcyclist foils 'flat tire scam' in Mexico City, warning goes viral

A motorcyclist in Mexico City successfully intervened to prevent a "flat tire scam" targeting a driver on Circuito Interior. The incident, captured on video by the motorcyclist and shared on TikTok, shows a group of men attempting to defraud a motorist by falsely claiming one of his tires was flat.

The video, which has garnered over 2 million views, reveals the scam's operation: criminals work in groups, identify potential victims in traffic, often elderly individuals or solo drivers, and approach them with the false warning. One accomplice walks up to the vehicle to inform the driver about the supposed flat tire while the car is still moving.

As the car proceeds, another accomplice signals to alert their partners once the driver stops. The motorcyclist, who was recording the event, managed to reach the victim before the scammers could act. He urgently advised the driver to get back in his car and leave quickly, exclaiming, "Boss, get in, they're going to rob you... leave quickly."

The driver, initially confused, returned to his car and drove away. The motorcyclist further warned him that these individuals specialize in telling drivers they have a flat tire or something loose on their vehicle. According to Mexico City's Citizen Security and Justice Council, once the driver exits the vehicle, the accomplices attempt to steal belongings or the car itself. They may even offer to help find a mechanic, leading the victim to a fake repair shop where they charge exorbitant prices. Authorities advise ignoring such warnings and driving to a safe, public place like a gas station or police station to check the vehicle.
